SPIRITUAL GROWTH People today are seeking a spiritual experience. We believe that a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to true peace and joy. As in any relationship, it takes time and nurture for growth to happen.
Therefore, we will work hard at strategically helping people move forward in their spiritual journey by encouraging spiritual disciplines, sacrificial giving and selfless service to others.
AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY People today are looking for a place where they feel comfortable and cared for. Authentic community involves laughter, genuiness, trust and harmony among its members.
Therefore, we will work hard at encouraging people to connect with others. We will create various opportunities where relationships can begin to form and then we will train leaders to develop communities where fellowship, spiritual discipleship and opportunities for serving others are happening on a regular basis.
CAPTIVATING WORSHIP People today are captivated by things that are relevant, inspiring, uplifting and of excellent quality. People should look forward to attending the worship services at Oakwood with an increasing expectation of something incredible taking place every week.
Therefore, we will work hard at not being sloppy in our approach to worship but instead will strive to engage people through quality ministry that is applicable and appealing to those within our culture and society today as we point them towards a captivating life in Christ.
LIFE-CHANGING MISSIONS North Americans are very affluent compared to most of the world's population. Resources, while not limitless, are abundant. Jesus makes it very clear that his followers are to care for the poor, sick and needy. By offering a cool drink of water, the hand of God is able to reach down and touch those in need.
Therefore, we will work hard at seeking opportunities to BE Jesus to those throughout our world who are in need of experienceing a physical life-changing touch from God. To us, missions must mean more than simply giving money. It must mean that we will "get our hands dirty" and will often require sacrifice and discomfort in order to provide for the needs of others throughout our community and the world.
INNOVATIVE MINISTRY People and their needs are continually changing. Problems and difficulties constantly arise that cause us to re-think how life is done in a postmodern world. Without new ideas and new methods of ministry, life becomes stale and passionless. Jesus' message of changing the world is full of passion and hope.
Therefore, we will work hard at being creative in our ministry approach as well as willing to experiment with new ideas and willing to make whatever changes necessary in order to become more effective at sharing the "Good News" message of the 1st century with people of the 21st century.
